I just happily retired from GE with 40 years service on August 1, 2014. I spent most of my GE time (24 years) at the Research Center in Niskayuna, NY as an Administrative Assistant. In my last 2 years I supported 5 Lab Managers and ~ 80 Scientists. It was way too busy but still - I had a blast and I met a lot of great people and even made some very good friends.
Now that I am retired from GE I can dedicate myself 100% to the job I love most and have been doing since childhood - teaching piano and putting on shows! As a child I wasn’t getting paid for my lessons, but I still remember the looks on the parents’ faces at my recitals when they saw their child was indeed playing the piano!
From 1989-2007 I taught piano as a 2nd job in the evenings and on weekends (in addition to working full time at GE).
Besides all the years of teaching I also took a Piano Pedagogy Class at the College of Saint Rose in 1993, (Piano Pedagogy means the Teaching of Piano). One of the requirements was to be evaluated by my Professor while teaching a half hour piano lesson - OR - write a term paper. I chose the half our lesson with one of my own students, a 10 year old girl, “D”. Click here to see the evaluation of that lesson.
After a while the demands of 2 jobs got to be too much and I had to give up the piano teaching. However, even though I was no longer teaching I never stopped thinking about it. So I have spent the past 5 years, with Paul's collaboration, developing a whole new program.
Although in the past Paul and I taught as a team, in our new program we each have our own students. But since we're both teaching the same program, in the event one of us can’t make it to the lesson, the other will cover (if they can).
For more fun and variety, we will combine our students when scheduling any of our events such as Holiday Parties, Camp Fire Parties, Video Delight Parties, Forest Walks, and more!
I am now accepting new students, although lessons will not begin until January, 2015.
